Trustworthy JDM engine importers
I'm sure at least one person here has had to replace an engine at some point. I don't suppose anyone knows of any trustworthy and reliable suppliers of import engines? I've done a good amount of searching and found many sources, however i don't know which suppliers to avoid and I'd rather not get burned on this transaction.

Looking for an engine for the Talon?
Have you tried any of the DSM online communities?

I've looked around at DSMtuner and DSMsource, DSMsource banned my email for whatever reason but I'm trying to get that all straightened out. I've also checked around with craigslist, JDM Engine Depot, JDM Addiction, Japanese Star Motors and Toronto JDM. A lot of the engine sites seemed rather sketchy and crazy overpriced.

No it's a Mitsubishi motor, I've checked a few places around here but they all have six-digit mileage numbers. An advantage with the Japanese motor is that in typical Japanese fashion they kept the more powerful motor for themselves. It has a higher compression ratio, larger turbo, and higher capacity injectors standard.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI/Eclipse/Galant/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser 4G63T (98-01) $3,999.00 at JDM Engine Depot. They seem legitamate, decent price, warranty. If they try to screw you, you can always go to your attourney general and file a complaint (I got confused with Toyota's 4AGE)

Whoa that is expensive! We've been looking at engines w/transmissions for less than $2000. I think using ebay wouldn't be such a gamble. Especially if you pick someone who has plenty of feedback that you can browse through for problems.

The problem I've had with Ebay is that nobody has the correct engine. Everyone has the 2G 7-bolt or only have a shortblock and not the full motor. Ebay has proven fruitful for the transmission though.

The problem with Ebay also is that there is no guarantee that it will work, someone can try to sell you a blown engine or one with parts missing. And I highly doubt your gonna find a 4G63T with transmission for just $2,000

Actually most of them with transmissions have been averaging around $1500. Starting with the Evo4 they reversed the rotation and swapped it around, putting the transmission on the left of the car instead of on the right like it is with my car. The evo engines set up like that will easily set you back several grand, however with my older style I luck out. Any more than $2000 for a used old setup like miine and are charging too much
