Default Battery Gets drained very quick

I've recently have been having problems with my battery. It's only about a year old, but it seems if I leave the car sit without being started for just a week, I have to jump it. Could anyone let me know what may be wrong with it and how to go about fixing it?

Thanks!

Well, it has to be either a bad battery or there is a short somewhere that is slowly draining the battery.

If the battery is only a year old my bet is on a short. How old is the car?

it very well could be the battery, to check that just unplug the next time you get the car running and let it sit for a few days, if it dies out again that is your problem if not you most likely have a short.

Default dead battery

Most shops have a battery condition tester. If you go to any of the high priced low quality places like autozone or checkers most of them have a tester as well. They may not have people trained on the tool, but they usually have em. (sorry my personal opinion about those kinda shops is really low) I've been a certified mechanic for Dodge about 8 years now. The problem can be MANY things, not just the battery or a short. You could have a defective aftermarket cd player that won't shut off, you could have a light in a glovebox that is on, one of the computers to the car may not turn off and drain the battery, there are WAY TOO MANY things that can be the problem. Most of the problems are simple. The battery may just have been bad from the beginning, the alternator may not put out enough power to actually charge the battery only enough to keep the car running. The cables may have corrosion, enough to cause problems. Not to make the list larger, but it isn't a few things that may be wrong. The short everyone talks about, what kinda short?? you could have a short to power a short to ground??? A short isn't the term to use, you have a parasitic drain. There is something that is turned on that shouldn't be. Or could just be the battery, just because something is new doesn't mean it's good. I have had MANY of parts that were new out of the box and NEVER work.
