Default What paint scheme to use on the MG loaner racer?

I have decided to work on the old MG (barn find) that I bought last year and have done nothing with. This will give me something to do while getting a new motor built for the vette.

I am going to strip this thing down and put a cage in it and use it as a autocross loaner car this way if somebody wants to try auto-x they can drive it and not the vette.

I can not decide how to paint the car or even what colors to go with. I was thinking maybe a british racing green and the old round numbers on the doors and hood? Anybody have any cool ideas? Keep in mind I will be painting the car so no flames or murals, I am a accident waiting to happen with a air brush.

ALSO! If anybody knows of somebody that needs MG parts let me know, all the parts are in good shape but wont be using a lot of items to shave weight.

Don't listen to these goth kids. Stick with the British green. It fits the car, and I usually hate green on cars.

.... actually flat black might look cool.

.... OK I'm sorry. I take back that goth remark.

I happen to love the color black on cars but in this case I would have to say either british green (which everybody has, cuz it fits) or maybe a canary yellow. I'm not usually a fan of yellow, but a darker shade (ie. not so bright and vibrant) would fit well. Then you could use a blacked out # board with white lettering. It would also let you accentuate certain aspects of the car with a contrasting matte black or chrome (which will not look nearly as gaudy b/c of the medium base color). Not that chrome is gaudy to begin with, it just has more of a silent cool in that situation.

I agree with everyone here. British racing green is a must for a fast UK car (except maybe an Aston Martin.. black looks good on those =P)

Well i dont know if it is what "everyone" would do but it is a good color combination so it is used quite often.

I will have to play around with it on the program for the graphics and see how it looks.

They sell a conversion to put a 4.3 V6 in them, I have not seen one with a V8 but I am sure it has been done. FOr what I am going to do with the car a V8 would kill the track times because of all the weight that would be on the front of the car.

I get bored going in a straight line. I have spent more than my share of time at the dragstrip over the years however it was 90% sitting a 10% in the car. After I started road course racing it really was more fun with more seat time and more competative. I still go to the dragstrip a couple of times a year to play around on test and tune night (usually beating up on Houses GN) however I would take a good course over a dragstrip anytime.

I played around with the graphics program and looked at the car in a few different colors and red was 1 option with silver and black graphics so it somewhat had the same paint scheme as the vette.
