If you're looking for sheer power, you'll find that in either brand I'm sorry to say. Honda has its CBR1000's and Yamaha has the R1, both also have other race spec bikes that you can buy for street use. Unfortunately it all comes down to brand preference and body choice. I would have a Honda myself, however only because I'm a drummer and have played Yamaha instruments for most of my career so I don't usually associate Yamaha with sport bikes.

I like Honda, but I think Yamaha has more experience with motorcycles

I would personally get a Yamaha. I've rode them ever since my parents would let me. lol

It's really up to the feel of the bike for the individual. R1's are the best bang for the buck, but I find them uncomfortable being a taller guy. I have the constant feeling of going over the bars on the R1. I find Kawi seats are too wide and flat, so they dig into the sides of my legs. I can't explain Hondas. They just don't feel right to me. I've only been able to get comfortable on Gixxers. Surprisingly enough, I even feel comfortable on the newer ones that are built for a shorter framed individual. Of course, I assume we are only talking about crotch rockets.
