Chevrolet vs. GMC
i have a question. Why does anybody need 2 of the same thing? A chevrolet truck or SUV is the same thing as a GMC truck or SUV. i can remember when they didnt have different names for the Suburban. This mammoth SUV was named the same for both divisions. A S10 and Sanoma are the same truck! this is also the same for the Calarado and the Canyon, and the SIlverado and Sierra. the Yukon looks an awful lot like the Tahoe.

Yeah they are the same for the mosty part. GMC is pretty much just a slightly higher end Chevy. I prefer the GMCs myself.

GMC also does a lot of fleet vehicles and some heavy duty trucks where Chevrolet does most of the consumer trucks. I personally would have rather GM axed GMC and kept Pontiac myself, but then again my name isn't Fritz Henderson so I don't get a say.

another things is cost, like look at ford with mercury and almost every auto maker that has a two or more companies within them they share almost every engine part
and pretty much they can make a higher end car and pay less to do it

i entirely agree... keeping GMC was a big mistake.. they should have kept the GTO going too.. that way they would make some good money...

Although I can see the point of Chevy and GMC being almost identical in some aspects, I think GM chose GMC over Pontiac because GMC is a money maker and has a pretty decent reputation. Pontiac has been fluttering up and down in excellence of product over the years... and unfortunately their untimely death came when they were producing the best cars they ever had (G8!!!)

In all honesty, the GTO/G8 should have kept going not for the money but for the fact that the American market lacks really amazing sports cars under a domestic mark. Sure there is the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger, but I would take a VXR/G8 Bathurst over any of those, even the GT500KR.

Obviously I'm biased, but the reviews of the 2010 Mustang GT have been phenomenal, as almost every magazine has rated it the best of the muscle cars. I haven't driven a '10 yet, but one reviewer even said it had the best steering and response of any American car ever. Many of them agree, you can't even feel the live axle unless your taking a high speed turn on crappy pavement. I think with American cars, especially the Mustang and Corvette, people get way too caught up on words. Yes the vette uses leaf springs and the Mustang uses a live axle, but wow they make it work for them.
The G8 is certainly a nice vehicle, but essentially what you're saying is you'd take a 4 door on the zeta (?.. I hope that's the right name) platform instead of a 2 door on the same exact platform (Camaro). The 4 door lives in, just in the form of the CTS-V, which we can all agree that the 09 version is a force to be reckoned with.

Saturn was primarily for the commuter and first car market who needed basic, reliable transportation. Only in the last couple of years did they try to move up scale, but their attempts to do so where too little too late. The Sky and Aura, both brilliant cars, were both just rebadged Opels. I personally loved the Sky and would buy a Sky Redline over any other roadster on the market but the Saturn dealership around here closed down so I will probably have to go to Honda (which is funny I word it that way seeing as how I WORK at a Honda dealership). Hopefully Roger Penske does something productive with the brand.
