Disappointing but not surprising.

HMMMMM im not sure this was a good move on GM's part. These vehicles bring a lot of notice to the different car lines. i think this is just one example of their slow death.

I think performance cars, particularly pony cars are more important than many think. A lot of people are very brand loyal and pick their brand at a adolesent age, and they often pick the brand that makes their favorite performance cars.

honestly I loved GM.. but now I don't want much to do with them. I don't want to buy from a government controlled car company that's pushing green only. Maybe this completes me being partial to Fords now. If I was in the market (as a new buyer with money) and I wanted to buy American, no hesitation, I'd buy a Ford... they know how to market and keep the hippies happy (i.e. renaming turbocharged "ecoboost") and they still have balls by continuing to produce powerful V8s (6.2L BOSS anyone?)

Yeah, I can't say I am at all surprised they are disbanding it. Though the item I would really wish they not axe is the Saturn line, in particular the Saturn Sky/Opel GT. That is the only GM car I would pick up over a Corvette, I actually test drove a RedLine this afternoon and I loved it. If GM were to axe their performance line entirely they would lose quite a bit of revenue, especially if they halt the Corvette line like some rumors are saying.

I am in utter shock. after the ZR1 last year to this, boy did Gm F**k up this time. BUt wow Ford re-relaesing the SHO Taurus and F150 Svt Raptor. oh boy did they just tap a monopoly market for 2011

oh BTW from a friend attending a formerly GM owned university called Kettering in FLint, MI. GM is cutting Saturn within 18 months and Hummer is on its way out the door as well.

Thats really all they have. Like say you had a car company and you made two cars..like a geo prism, and a ferrari F430(for 340 whatever..) and you stopped making the nice one....what do you have left to represent your company? a big piece of ****!

That means, no more badass vettes? Slowbolt SS's? HHR SS's? no more badass american cars? Thank god i picked nissan at such a young age...

my family will be devistated..and i told them, and they won't believe me..

The Corvette program is a complete different part of GM. This group that they are doing away with has nothing to do with the Corvette or its performance. This group takes base model cars and turns them into performance cars.

The Corvette is at this point in no danger of going anywhere, it is one of the few divisions that actually makes GM money right now. They have also did research that proved GM would loose more than just Corvette sales if they were to do away with the Corvette division. This is the reason it did not get canceled in the early 80's when it was not making money.

What will kill the top end Corvettes (ZR1 & Z06) is the fact that Dodge will no longer make the Viper. With no US competition there is no reason to make these cars with the big HP numbers anymore, the HP wars will come to a end.

I'm sticking with Ford now, and if they go under (which seems unlikely at this point, thank God) like GM I'll buy German. I can't stand to see performance cars checked to the side in search for some stupid movement with no basis whatsoever (green movement).

The next vette, the C7.. who knows what will happen. This is just a bad situation for everyone (early 1980s anyone? cars sucked!). It really is a shame. The Viper is dead in 2011, the Vette is going to be changed, SS and V lines are on indefinite hold... not a good situation.

Long live Ford Motor Company..
