Default a little video

Well, I figure I would let you all see some work that superz28 and I did. It's nothing that special, but we had fun making it. It's a short video with CTS-V.

hahaha.. you know.. the new 556hp CTS-V ran a 7:59 at the nurburgring... beating out cars such as the Lamborghini Gallardo convertible, BMW M5 etc. Can't argue with that.

Cadillac has made a strong move in competing with BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc.
I don't mean to offend any Lincoln fans, but Ford's Lincoln can't even compete with Buick.

I've been really impressed by Caddy these past few years, it's one of the few American cars that can actually corner, and while it still has a fairly American-feeling interior it' a nicely set up machine. I wouldn't mind getting the XLR-V myself.

Yeah. Honestly, the reason my dad bought a CTS-V was because of the test drive.. it really sold him. Obviously, he wouldn't have bought a regular CTS at the time. However, he recently had an opportunity to drive a 08 CTS 4, and he said (I agree after riding in it) that it feels like you're inside a nice BMW 5 series. Caddy has really turned their interiors into world class, as well as their engine choices.

although the CTS-V ran a better nurburgring (spelling?) track time thn the XLR-V... i was both amazed and horrified that GM made a better sedan than sports car haha

haha.. well, in my opinion, the flaw with the XLR/XLR-V was horsepower numbers. 443 horsepower is A LOT, but consider the fact that the convertible hardtop weighs a considerable amount, and the only transmission offered is a manumatic.. one without paddle shifters.. then you have an overweight vette with an improper transmission.

Don't get me wrong.. I would love to own one. I think they're beautiful looking machines, but they're more touring cars than sports cars. If they wanna compete with the Mercedes SLs, Cadillac has to work the interior like they did in the new CTS, get an engine with over 500hp for the V, lighten the body up, and truly make a car that gets people in showrooms (556hp CTS-V is already doing that).

Having said all of this, GM is not in the position to be concerned about the XLR. And I'd say the future is bleak for the XLR, given that CAFE regulations will be tightening up, it's not a mass market car, the future of the Corvette is uncertain (mid-engine? etc), and they are in a bad economic situation.

With what? Ford does not make any "sports" cars that will even come close on the ring to any of the top 10 cars. The Mustang is more of a "muscle" car do to it will go like hell in a straight line but throw a corner in and it is done. This goes back to the IRS thread for the mustang. I do not recall seeing the GT anywhere on the list of cars that have ran the ring? Is the GT even still being produced or did they drop it? If it is still a production car, it might have a chance to be in the top 10.

There is a simple reason for this. The CTS and V is based off a import from GM. I do believe it is the holden platform"SIGMA" same as the GTO was and the Cateria etc etc. These cars are rebumpered versions of imported cars from Australia.

This platform has been used in GM Ausi since 98 and has prduced some pretty impressive cars over seas. GM is now using this platform for just about all the new cadi's (not XLR) because it has more than proven itself and can be competative with BMW and the Mercs. The cadillac brand was known as the old farts car and GM has been trying to get away from that mindset and gear the cars towards the younger market that were buying the beamers and the mercs. The problem is the cars are priced right with the beamers and mercs and when it comes down to what car to pick, most are still going for the BMW just because it is a BMW. If Cadi stays in the game with the cars like the CTS-V they should be able to start pulling more of the market from BMW and Merc.

The XLR (V) is just a over priced over weight trophy car for the rich. This was tried once before by Cadi with the Allante and it went over about as good as the XLR. You can buy these on e-bay now for less than 5K and were priced over 60K in the late 80's early 90's. The XLR will be one of the first cars to get the axe here pretty soon. Look on e-bay and you will see these cars are already selling in the 30K range. This is almost 1/3 of what the car was new and less than 2 years old.
