Default Lexus SC430 vs. Mercedes SLK55 AMG

Which hardtop convertible would you rather have?

Lexus SC430 - 288 horsepower 4.3 liter V8, 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds, air conditioning w/climate control, interior air filter, power tilt/telescopic wood/leather-wrapped steering wheel w/radio controls, cruise control, leather upholstery, heated 10-way power front seats, memory system, premium sound system, 6-disc CD changer, navigation system w/voice recognition, outside-temperature indicator, universal garage door opener, compass

Mercedes SLK55 - 355 horsepower 5.4 liter V8, 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds, air conditioning w/dual-zone climate controls, interior air filter, power tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel w/radio controls, cruise control, leather upholstery, outside-temperature indicator, heated 8-way power [front] seats, memory system, universal garage door opener

I think I might rather have the SLK55, but not by much. They're both sporty and luxurious cars. The SLK55 really excels in sportiness though, while the SC430 excels in luxury. They're both really impressive cars, and I'd be really happy with either won, but the SLK55 might be just a tad bit higher on my list. They are both winners. What's your opinion?

I'd take the SLK55 for the power and styling that is more to my liking.

I'd take the Mercedes, since I've had more than my share of driving SC430s. They are fun to drive, but you they get a little funny and quirky after a while, and you get tired of them sooner than you'd like. They're kind of more like a novelty than anything. The Mercedes is the sort of car you can enjoy for a long time.

No comparison. AMG hands down... it's actually made for an enjoyable DRIVING experience.. the Lexus is a riders car.

That's because the Mercedes is a classy piece of machinery, backed by 100 years of history in the luxury car market. There's just so much charm and personality (not to mention world-class driving experience) behind a Mercedes. The Lexus is a good car, no question about it, and I've enjoyed the ones I've driven. But, there's just something about a Mercedes-Benz that makes it more appealing.

I agree. I think the SLK55 might be a better use of my money. It's also $800 less than the SC430. Judging by the comments on GearsGarage, it seems like the SLK55 is the winner.
