There are a few diesel guys around here, but they have kept quiet as of late. I'm not sure why. Usually they have all kinds of "I pulled this fully loaded tractor trailor along with the wrecker that got stuck trying to pull him out of a ditch today"... or... "A cop tried to pull me over so I floored it and by the time he got through all my black smoke, I was loooong gone" stories.

HMM I will have to disagree! We need something to pull our race CARS to the track, diesels are great for that. As far as racing, cornering, showing (with exception to complete show trucks) they really do not fit in.
I also think the majority of the people in here are living at least a little above "redneck" status. If you look around you will see most people in here are interested in a performance vehicle as in handeling, acceleration, stopping, etc and there is few trucks (and NO diesel's) that are produced that fit into this catagory.
Quick Answer = the same reason we do not talk about diesel powered bull dozers or diesel powered trains.

on Jay Leno's Garage a couple weeks back he had a really awesome diesel drag truck on there, but I personally have no experience with Diesel. If I knew more about them I would gladly throw in some discussion, but I only know how they work.

ok.. liking diesel does not make you a redneck.. i personally like diesel trucks too... and you can't call us rednecks (which i believe is a derogatory term) when you write "there is few trucks" .. don't you mean there are few trucks.. so hows it feel for an ignorant redneck to correct your english?? wow... and look at all these videos with diesel powered CARS and PERFORMANCE trucks:
YouTube - Twin Turbo Diesel Vette!?!?!?
YouTube - Smokin Diesel Racing Mustang
YouTube - Dodge Viper vs. Dodge Ram Diesel
whats that ^ .. that is a diesel truck beating your performance CAR!!
if you knew anything about diesel then you know its all about torque.. a diesel engine can have 350HP and 1000 pounds of torque at the same time.. anjd like carol shelby said.. "horse power sells cars, torque wins races" trucks are just a different kind of performance:
YouTube - Ultimate Joy Ride
and need i remind you:
ROUSH Performance - 2008 Stage 3 ROUSH F-150
YouTube - 2TurboSS Vs. Black509SS
need i say more??? and next time you disagree with someones opinion be respectful.. calling people rednecks is rude and just plain unnecessary.. ok.. you "city scum" or should i call you a ricer since your vette is more show than go??

First off a "redneck" is a derogatory term? If this is so then why do the trucks around here have "redneck" decals on them? Are people being derogatory towards themselves. I have been to truck pulls, truck shows, etc over the years and if you do not agree that the majority of the people at these events fit the redneck stereotype then you are blind.
As far as being corrected, that is just the result of trying to type and hold a conversation at the same time. I will hire a english teacher to proof read my post before I post. Thanks for the correction
YouTube - Twin Turbo Diesel Vette!?!?!?
Link does not apply, we are talking about diesel TRUCKS!
YouTube - Smokin Diesel Racing Mustang
Again does not apply, this is a purpose built race car not a TRUCK.
YouTube - Dodge Viper vs. Dodge Ram Diesel
whats that ^ .. that is a diesel truck beating your performance CAR!!
I agree the truck beat the Viper in the drag race however that does not make it a performance vehicle or better than the viper. Put the 2 on a road course and and lets see how it turns out. All this tells me is this truck will pull a trailer faster than a stock one.

"if I knew anything about diesels" After wrenching on cars for 20 years and in car manufacturing business for 15 I have a pretty good understanding of a diesel however I will answer your question. You are 100% correct that a diesel is all about torque, this would be the reason they use them in trucks to pull trailers, in trains to pull cargo and to move ships through the sea. Just because something has 1000 ft/lb TQ does not make it a performance vehicle (a bullbozer for example) nor does it indicate it is "fast". Mr. Shelby was correct saying HP sells cars and Torque wins races however there has to be a balance of the 2. A lot of torque with minimal HP will move anything however without the HP it will not keep the mass moving. If you have high HP but no minimal TQ the car will have a harder time moving the mass however once it is moving it can carry the speed. I agree that a truck is a "different kind of performance" however different does not always indicate good.
YouTube - Ultimate Joy Ride
You were complaining about the redneck comment and you post this! Beat up old chevy truck with NO doors in a mud pit tearing the crap out of the truck, you have another word that fits better for this?
and need i remind you:
ROUSH Performance - 2008 Stage 3 ROUSH F-150
If you are to look in my original post I said "is few trucks" (this would be the correction you made) and this truck would fit into the "few" trucks that are geared towards performance. The video would not work however I am pretty sure that truck is not a diesel truck. To add to the "few" catagory we will include the Typhoon, Syclone, Lightning, and for good measures we will throw in the SS454 chevy truck even if it was a joke.
YouTube - 2TurboSS Vs. Black509SS
Again video will not work however from what I did see it looks as if this is a gas truck purpose built to drag race?
need i say more??? and next time you disagree with someones opinion be respectful.. calling people rednecks is rude and just plain unnecessary.. ok.. you "city scum" or should i call you a ricer since your vette is more show than go??

He asked, I answered, sorry if the truth did not settle well. I live in a town not a city so that would be "town scum" however I am not sure that is even a phrase that has meaning I have never heard it used in conversation unlike redneck. You can call me "ricer" however that does not fit because I do not own a import (Corvette is made in the USA last time I checked) with a bunch of body mods. If you look real close my car is NOT a show car There is 0 chrome or anything that makes it look pretty.
As for the vette being more show than go, are you willing to back that comment up? You willing to put your money on that? I would be more than willing to make a road trip to see if you can back that comment up.

go ahead and take the road trip.. ill take my neighbors porsche up against it and see how well you do.. and if you knew **** from a car you'd know that rice stands for Race Inspired Car Exterior.. and yes redneck is a derogatory term.. and the links apply because at one point in your statement you insulted diesel all together.. and i posted a DIESEL TRUCK owning a PERFORMANCE CAR.. that makes the truck performance.. does it not?? and Redneck is a reference to an ignorant/uneducated person who lives in the country driving a dilapidated old junk mobile.. those trucks took INTELLIGENCE to build and are NOT dilapidated... it is a hobby just like any other vehicular hobby.. ok so you don't live in a city.. that just makes you a little pond scum.. ill be sure to wipe you off my foot after i step on you.. yea.. i don't take kindly to being called a redneck....

Easy now.
There are all types of different car enthusiasts. It is a common practice for differning types of enthusiasts to give each other a hard time. Similiar to how fans of differing teams of the same sport rouse each other. In most cases it isn't said to be hateful. The teasing is just a method of starting or continuing a conversation about the subject they all love. In this case Automobiles.

Out of respect for Johnnyboy and the Forum, I will let it end with you having the last word instead of getting in a pissing match. We will agree to disagree!
On a side note the offer still stands for you to prove my car is "all show and no go". If your neighbor is ok with you racing his Porsche then great, looks like it will be a drivers race assuming it is a 911 Turbo or better. Let me know where you are located and I will see If I can rent a track for a few hours that is close to you. I have friends that road race pretty much all over the country and can help me find a track close to you. This only leaves the question on how much money you are willing to gamble.

Ok guys, I've cleaned this thread up a little. Let's try to keep things on topic.
I don't have much experience with diesel trucks, but when it comes to cars, I know a lot of the European companies are making huge advances with diesel engines. Mercedes has really stepped up their game with their new diesel engines. They hardly sound like diesels! My cousin just bought a 2008.5 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a diesel (made by Mercedes). He's quite happy with it, and the gas mileage is impressive.

like i was sayin before diesel can be applied to many things.. i find it fascinating how diesel engines don't have spark plugs and still combust.. i kinda like the way they sound.. it sounds powerful..
