Default Trans Am project!

With the help of a fellow gears member we were able to get the 1K Trans Am trailered home. We went to a Pull A Part last weekend and found all the lights and bumper support pieces we need, just need to locate a bumper cover now. If you ever get a chance to go to a Pull A Part, DO IT! That place is the best and the prices are VERY good on parts.

First thing was to get all the dirt off the car and from under the hood, I am not a fan of getting greasy and dirty if I can keep from it. As you can see in the photo, the car looks like new when it is wet, maybe instead of painting it I will just drive it on rainy days.

The rims cleaned up really good however they will look a LOT better when they are painted black instead of gray.

I did a quick clean on the engine bay. i will clean this up some more when I get to doing the engine mods on it and tearing off all the damn emissions off of it.

The interior is not really bad at all. I will be replacing the geto headliner and speaker covers, new seats, center console and carpet and should look pretty good.

I am getting ready to order a ram air hood for it and hopefully will be able to locate a bumper really soon. As soon as I get these parts it will be stripped and painted. I will post up some pics when I start.

YUP! Paid 1K for the car. Runs and drives great and everything works, even the AC. The car is really in decent shape except where it was hit in the front.

I located the parts that i need and will be picking them up this weekend. Looks like I will have around 1600 in the car (including purchase of car) after fixing the front and repainting the whole car.

After the body is all done and the car looks good we will start on the drivetrain. Keep in mind this is a 305 (thought it was a 5.7 ) so we are going to see just how good a 305 can run. I think we can get it in the 12's pretty easy.

Default UPDATE!

Drove to Dayton OH yesterday and picked up a front bumper and a hood a guy had on e-bay. The bumper was in perfect shape and even the same color as the car, this will save me some time triming it out before putting it on the car.

When I was there I also bought a dash pad with No cracks and a center console and lid that is in great shape (lid is broken on mine). It was worth the trip, I can just imagine what it would cost to ship all that crap.

So as it stands now we are still well under 2K total in this project.
Car - 1,000
Hood - 75
Bumper - 153
Console - 30
Dash pad - 30
support - 40
TOTAL = $1,328

I started removing all the lights and crap from the car to get ready to paint. I decided to do a little at a time and clean up the parts as I remove them so they will all look new before I reassemble them after the car is painted. I started with the tail lights. They were all hazy and surface scratched and just looked

I took the apart and cleaned them real good and used some compound and polished them up, They look a LOT better. Here is a couple pics of one completed next to one I have not done yet so you can see the difference.

Default UPDATE! 4-26-09

Well we did a little work on The project TA this weekend.

First we stripped all the lights and such off to get it ready for paint. Then we removed the crashed front end and hood and replaced with the new parts. here is a few pics of the process.

After we got the car all stripped we scuffed it up for paint and fixed a few small places that needed some attention. Then the fun task of taping the car.

We then got the paint and clear on the car. We put some blue/green pearl in the clear so it will be interesting to see how it looks tomorrow in the sun.

This will give you a idea of the color. You can see a little of the pearl giving it a blue haze.

It came out pretty good for having a total of less than $500 in the repaint.
Now time to get the buffer out and go to town on it.

Dang. You work fast.

I was skeptical about how that scooped hood would look on that model year... but it looks good.

It's all in the details, my friend, and you've obviously spent time in the correct spots. Bravo!

Default UPDATE 5-4-09

We spent most of the day sanding and buffing! I have to say it is NOT my favorite thing to do. We did get from the doors sand and buffed along with the rear wing. Tomorrow I will start on the doors. Here is a few pics on how it looks after some buffing.
