Instant Messenger

I began working on the instant messenger for GearsGarage a while back and just now got around to finishing it up. Some of you may have already been using it.

You'll notice a INSTANT MESSENGER link now at the very top of the page. This will open the instant messenger where all your friends that are online, if any, are listed. There is also a link on everyones page where you can instant message that person directly.

I know it is barebones and lacks fancy features, but give me your feedback on it. If you find any bugs please let me know.

Well, Gear doesn't like that you have to have the instant messenger window open to be logged onto the messenger and your friends must have the window open for them to message you. I don;t particularly like that myself. So, we are planning on setting up a Facebook-like instant messenger that hopefully functions just like the one on Facebook.

Depending on the difficulty of integration... it could show up as soon as tonight.

Some bugs are still being worked on, but the Facebook styled IM looks to be a winner. Just need to get it working on the forum page as well and a few text problems.

The new instant messenger caused problems with the site's comment system, so it has been uninstalled for the time being until those issues can be resolved.

OK, so we figured out a fix for the comment bug. Although now the comments don't refresh to show you your new comment. This will be fixed soon.

So, the Facebook like instant messenger is back up for some more bug testing. Let me know if any of you have any problems with it or any other part of the site that may have been affected by it.
