That all depends on the the supercharger or turbo. There's a little bit of difference between one of those little Novi superchargers Paxton makes that are about the size of an alternator and a Weiand 8-71. Same as a TD-05H (Stock Eclipse turbo) has less mass than a T-88. I kinda need you to narrow the spectrum a little. What application are we talking about here? As far as turbos go, it could be something the size of a 2-liter bottle on a 4-cyl to something the size of a 4-cyl on a locomotive. Also if you're looking at turbos for a V type engine, are you thinking single or duals?

It's alllllll about power to weight ratio. Superchargers use power to get power, turbos don't. I still prefer superchargers because they're cost effective, imo better sounding, and quicker off the line.

That only works in certain applications though. I can build an offset twin turbo set up that will spool almost immediately and switch power to a larger turbo at a specified boost level and push psi all day. Thus creating almost zero lag and still providing maximum hp in the upper registers. All in a package that will still be fuel efficient as long as your not mashing the throttle everywhere you go. That tenth or two of the line you gain isn't going to help when the turbo car picks 5 or 6 by the end of the strip. Don't get be wrong, Superchargers have their place and I love 'em to death on certain cars, but with the advancements in turbo technology over the last decade or so, it's not unreasonable to make better power with a properly tuned turbo setup.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you have to stick with what you like. We all have options.

Agreed. I know what you mean about the proper tune, but I'm saying with V8s, a turbo charged setup will put you in the high 500hp range starting off. Most people would not be able to handle that.. especially on the streets...
Not that I don't like power =)

Like I said, proper tune. It's not like you have to have 500 horses to start. Adjust the boost controller down to something more manageable and work your way up. The thing with superchargers is that it is always there, even when you don't want it to be. With a turbo its a delayed curve, meaning that it starts out just on motor then slides into "freight train" mode. Supercharged cars are like riding on a jet engine. They are constantly suckin it down and blowin it out in a very masculine sort of display. Turbo power, on the other hand, is more like strappin your a$$ in a slingshot and holdin on for dear life every once in a while to make sure you're still alive.

and thats why i like superchargers better... ... although a turbo setup like the one you described would be nice i like the sound of superchargers and the jet engine feel it has :-) ... but back on topic how much would a typical twin screw S/C weigh?

As I am guessing you want to install on an 05 or newer mustang, the the Saleen Series VI for the 05-06 stang weighs in at 40 lbs. The Whipple 24V HO for the same years weighs 50 lbs and is cast aluminum. I'm not sure what the saleen sc is made out of, but I do know that some companies like Kenne Bell are making them out of billet and lighter aluminums like 6061. I can't imagine that would get you down much lower than 35 lbs at the most.
It really is all about power to weight, though. You can install a SC that weighs 40 lbs and makes 475hp or one that weighs 50 lbs with the same hp rating. However, if 10 pounds is going to make that much of a difference that you feel it is affecting the cars performance, then we're no longer talking about a street car, are we?

Turbos ftw. The only reason I would go with a supercharger is if I didn't have enough $$$ for a turbo setup. You don't even need to use the offset turbo setup. Just run a single and get some nitrous to make up for the lag. Or run twins and have some juice just for the fun of it.
My car is not going to see any sort of forced induction anytime soon. The only power adder I will go with is some spray. Probably just a 100-150 shot. Thank the lord for factory forged pistons. I might even swap all the fuel injection stuff and make my car carbed. All depends on the money.
Don't you not even have a car yet kendall? I don't see where you are going to get the money to afford all of this.

ehh I never got into programming and such. I am trying to get a job for the geeksquad also. It's weird cuz nobody would ever guess by looking at me that I like computers. I dress like a skater and I skate lol. But i'm good at troubleshooting, repairs like hardware or software anything, building comps. I took my computer apart and built it all the way back up all from memory. Also rebuilt all my friends computers and upgraded them and stuff. It's a good career. Good luck with it dude.
