Lightbulb Work at DeLorean Motor Company

well I was asking the owner of the shop if he would teach me to drive a stick on a DeLorean and he said he would love to, BUT... I dont have insurance to drive any of the cars actually. so I made a suggestion.

My suggestion was that they could put me on the payroll so then I would be insured and in order for them to loose very little money I would then donate all of the money I would get after tax back to them.

do you think this is to much to ask

I still haven't suggested this to the Manager who is responsible for hiring people.

please put aside your hate for DeLoreans (if you hate them) and please give me some legit feedback.

Well, it would still cost him the amount of the taxes, but I suppose if he paid you an insignificant amount then it wouldn't be much. Perhaps offering some help round the shop as well, would help.

I'm not sure what to say. Without knowing what he would pay to add you to the insurance or what your projected paycheck would be as a gofer, I can't really say if thats fair or not. It may not be that easy since your not a certified technician and insurance for young males is expensive.

I imagine he was using the insurance reason as way to be nice to tell you he does not want to. I am sure they have dealer plates that they use when people testdrive cars. With the dealer plate comes insurance that covers anybody driving the car. Would be no different than him allowing somebody to testdrive a car for purchase.

I imagine he is letting you down and trying to be nice about it not because he does not like you or something as musch as the damage you could do on the car trying to learn. Some people pick it up real quick and others it takes a while to catch on. You could easily burn through a clutch trying to get the hang of it. If this were to happen it could be costly to him in repairs.

Do like everybody else and go to a lot and testdrive a stick. Or go to a car rental and rent one. This will give you a quick idea if you are going to get the hang of it or not. I am sure you have a friend that has some old beater that is a stick that they would let you try in.

Whatever you do good luck at learning!

actually they do not have dealer plates

and he would have let me on the payroll but I found out that they are actually going through some trouble because people have been shortchanging them or not paying an time and plus they are letteng me bring in the cars now so I get a little more comfortable driving a stick

and I "learned" to drive a stick on an Isuzu Rodeo, but I suck at it but while bringing the DeLoreans in (yes that includes the BTTF car) I'm a natural on the DeLorean.
