Rarity, exclusivity, decently high price tag.. and it's traditionally fast.
my 2 cents.

I think it's a combo of exclusivity, price tag, exuberance, and partly where it's from. I don't really consider the Ford GT to be an exotic, because they are homegrown, but rather a domestic sports car (same as a Vette or Viper, or even a Panoz Esperante). I would consider anything that shares qualities with something like either a Ferrari 512 or a Maybach 67s to be an exotic, because of how they stand out, due to their exquisite quality and attention to detail.

I always thought of an exotic as a very expensive (6 figures+) car that is flamboyantly flashy styled, like most Lamborghinis.

A Ford Ka can hardly be considered "exotic", considering they're econo-boxes (and they ARE Fords after all). Location isn't so much a requirement for the term so much as it is a consideration for the fact that it's foreign, but the other factors I mentioned are a must. Johnny hit the nail on the head, except that they don't have to be flashy. Just look at Maybach. They are rather boring to look at, but they are an exotic, because of all the other factors (the $350,000+ price tag, plus the condo-on-wheels business will undoubtedly be the determining points).

No... they're not exclusive, and not that expensive. The Alfa 8C is an exotic, but all the others, no.

Well, there's a difference between rare and exotic, right?
