Dirt bike opinion
What's up, people?
I was wondering if any of you that are into dirtbikes could help me out a little. I currently have a 1982 Yamaha IT 465 enduro bike and was thinking of trying to locate a newer YZ 450 aluminum frame to transplant. I know anything is possible with money, but thought I should maybe get some feedback before I delve into this endeavor.
As far as I know the engines between the two are close in size. I don't know any one that has a new YZ 450 for me to measure the engine but they look close. Slight modification to the frame (for mounting tabs and whatnot) is acceptable. I just don't want to be cutting up the whole frame, cuz then what's the point.
I realize it would be much easier to just forget about the IT 465 and get the newer YZ 450 for riding. However, Ive grown quite attached to the power band on the IT 465, and let's face it, it's one of the meanest bikes ever built. It is a 465cc 2-stroke. It's just that it's become a rough ride and suspension components for it are scarce. That and it was built as an enduro bike and so it does have an old, heavy steel frame that is a little long and hard to turn. Also, it never had good landing characteristics, even when the suspension was new. That's how I came across the idea of transplanting to a YZ 450 aluminum frame. It would give me up-to-date, upgraded suspension options and a much more manageable bike for the hard riding I do.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
