Gas Prices
Hey guys, I'm just kind of curious what your thoughts and opinions were on the gas prices. If it is really affecting you negatively or not?
Also what is the gas price where you are??
And to answer my own questions: They're getting pretty high, but it isn't the end of the world. We will finally be having prices similar to Europe and such.
And here in Iowa the price I saw at the pump was $3.59/gal cheapest.

$3.79 last I looked.
I don't see why they won't keep bumping it up. People aren't really complaining that much. Not many people are cutting down on their driving or buying more fuel efficient cars... at least from what I can see around here.

Prices are high because of OPEC nations, in other words, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia etc. They keep the price so high because there is a huge demand in China and India for oil. There's plently of supply, but the Middle Eastern nations are simply greedy, and China/India will pay what's necessary for the oil. A lot of people don't know that. The cause of high gas prices isn't the war at all. But over here I paid 3.99 for 93 octane.

Well if I owned a business that sold a product, that every time I bumped the price up, I still sold the same amount... well I'd keep bumping up the price too. It's not greed it's just good business.
I just wish people would stop buying these huge ass trucks when they don't need them (I am excluding enthusiasts that get great joy from their trucks of course). Where I live, I'd guess the traffic is around 60-70% trucks and suvs, with only around 5% subcompacts.
I am one gearhead that welcomes alternative fuels and hybrids. Just as long as they don't get carried away and stop making or ban regular gas cars. Only using less gas will bring the price down.

My car will need 93 once it's running, over here that's running around 3.85 if I remember right. I'm not complaining too much about the gas prices, I don't have money to fill up any of my cars anyway. I was actually going to try syphoning gas out of my talon and putting it in the Topaz but I guess lucky for me there is a gate half way down the filler pipe so I can't get the syphoning tube down into my own gas tank.

That reminds me. if gas prices go up much more, we're gonna need to all buy those lockable gas caps, cuz it won't take long for the lowlifes to figure out they can get more money from syphoning gas than stealing stereos etc... but then again I'm not sure how they'd sell it.

They wouldn't, they'd just take the gas for themselves and count the money they save as money in their pockets. Both of my cars have remote filler doors, but even that doesn't make me feel too safe. I was actually watching a video today on CNN about gas station drive-offs and the police chief of the area even had his gas siphoned from his tank when he was on vacation. I think those locking caps only cost something like $5 a piece tops, a low price to pay to protect upwards of $100 in a tank of gas.

yeah no doubt! I've had my gas siphoned out, though that was when I had the cavalier. My Stratus doesn't have a locking cap, I really should buy one. I wouldn't put it past people around here to do something like that either. Just this last weekend over 20 cars had all their tires stabbed.

All this talk about siphoning gas is one thing that makes hybrids/electrics (electrics especially) a slightly better option: there's little/no gas to be stolen. The down shot of course, especially with hybrids, is the value of the nickel-hydride batteries, if ever thieves decide they want to steal them. A nickel-hydride battery is worth a couple thousand dollars, if they manage to steal one.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't just steal the car for the battery. I'm sure Prius parts are a hot commodity with how popular they are becoming.

The cheapest I've seen here in the past few weeks is $3.85 for regular... and I'm paying between $4.05 and $4.15 for 91.
It's become very expensive to drive, but there's really nothing I can do about it at this point, so to answer the original question, it's affecting my wallet/credit cards, but I'm not driving any less.... I can't.

ALL THE PPL that put bush in office are oil tycoons!! they want their money. No other industry in the world has a profit margin as large as the one on gas right now!!! Its rediculous. You want lower gas prices??? Vote democratic!

People can't save enough money to buy more fuel efficient cars they're trying to keep gas in the car that they already have. The gas prices here keep jumping back and forth from $3.49 to $3.69. I hate it. My car gets good gas mileage, but it really doesn't matter anymore because of these damn prices. I miss when gas was $2.69.
