Default Greatest Off Roader of All Time?

What do you guys think? By off-roader I mean stock... so like a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon would be an acceptable answer.

Personally, I think the Land Rover Defender is badass, along with the truck that Lamborghini used to make. Older Broncos are cool, but some people don't know how to take care of them, and there are too many distasteful mods.

Completely stock? I'd have to go with the Hummer H1.

I'm going to have to agree with the Land Rover Defender. Any time automotive shows try testing off road vehicles, the Land Rover always ends up pulling the other vehicles out of the ruts and mud.

Default Mercedes G

Hey for me, it's a toss up between the Volkswagon Touareg, or the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, I think the G is slightly better, it kicks but off road.

Since we're including European exotics, add me for Porsche Cayenne Turbo as well

As much as I dislike them, I'd say the Hummer H1 would be the best. Then again I know very little of Land Rover....

From personal experience I'm giving the nod the the old International Scout. I used to have a Traveler. The the was extremely reliable, tougher than railroad-ties, NEVER got stuck no matter how much we tried (you have no idea the places we took that truck), and it had TONS of bottom-end grunt. It won Motor Trend 4x4 of the Year in 1981. I think that was the first year MT started doing the 4x4 of the Year thing too.

BTW I would take an old school Jeep Wrangler, no doors, no top, jacked up with some big meats on it and a 350 in it. THAT is the greatest off roader

I know you all like your H1's, but contrary to popular belief, they are far from unstoppable. I've piloted a few, and they're actually easier to get stuck than you might think. Land Rovers on the other hand, are worth their weight in gold when you're off-road. My buddies dad has a late 80's model (can't remember exactly) that has yet to get stuck, and we've had it in situations that would make an H1 cry. It even caught on fire while he was driving it home from purchase (previous owner screwed the wiring all to hell), but he just pulled over to the side of the road, grabbed some sand from the shoulder to put the fire out and continued on his way home. That's pretty tough. So, I'd have to go with a defender for a small trail vehicle and maybe a Unimog for general purpose. Hey, with a Unimog, you really don't have to worry about a trail. You're just gonna mow over everything in you're path anyway. It's like a tonka truck for grownups.
