Default Ford Redesigning the Mustang in 2009

What are your thoughts about this? I think the 2005+ Mustang looks perfect as is, but could it look any better with the up coming year?

If I was a Mustang fan I would be nervous. The current body style has even Ford haters admitting to their good looks. They better just do subtle changes.

I'm not so concerned about styling updates as much as I am about rumbles coming from Ford that there might not be a V8 in the next-gen Mustang.

A similar article was in the latest issue of Motor Trend.

I know! That news gives me a headache. A twin-turbo V6 in a Mustang GT? That's all wrong... it won't be a true muscle car anymore. The reason for all of this is the upcoming CAFE (coporate average fuel economy) regulations, which only apply to cars. This new legislation is directly aimed at limiting performance cars, however this only hurts American companies, because the German automakers can tag the extra tax right on to the msrp.

A turbo V6 may be disappointing because it is against tradition, but it could still be a muscle car. Look at the '86-'87 Buick Grand Nationals for example which had 240HP 3.8L V6s that were easily modded to 400HP+ with only minor exterior bolt on mods. Similiar stories with many other turbo cars... you can make an adjustable waste gate and bump the boost a couple psi to make 30-60 HP for $10 and an hours worth of work. So, in a way it could even be better for gearheads.

That's a good point, but when it comes to cars, I'm a purist. I have a quick question regarding that. What's the purpose of a blow-off valve?

I'm struggling to find the right words to explain so I'll cheat and let this wikipedia entry explain

Quote:
A compressor bypass valve (CBV) also known as a compressor relief valve is a vacuum-actuated valve designed to release pressure in the intake system of a turbocharged or centrifugally supercharged car when the throttle is lifted or closed. This air pressure is re-circulated back into the non-pressurized end of the intake (before the turbo) but after the mass airflow sensor.

A blowoff valve, (BOV, sometimes hooter valve, dump valve) does basically the same thing, but releases the air to the atmosphere. This creates a very distinctive sound desired by many who own turbocharged sports cars. Some blowoff valves are sold with trumpet shaped exits that amplify the "psssshhh" sound, as not all bov's are the same, some make different noises and these designs are normally marketed towards the tuner crowd. For some owners this is the only reason to get a BOV. Motor sports governed by the FIA have made it illegal to vent unmuffled blowoff valves to the atmosphere. In the United States, Australia and parts of Europe cars featuring unmuffled blowoff valves are illegal for street use.

Turbos 6s might be nice and easy to mod but I cannot imagine a Mustang without a V8 available. It just would not be right if not sacrilege.

I think it looks kinda neat. Ford seems to be headed in the same direction Chevrolet went with the Camaro. It still has the retro "feel" without actually being retro. My theory on it is, if you can get a 2005-2008 Mustang, do it. I think this new design has the potential to lead to some cool looking futuristic cars to hit the streets. I agree about the motor though, a V8 should at least be optional. The 5.4L is a good motor.

the headlights actually look a lot like the new camaro, but that's an Italian design, Ford said they were sticking to the retro look, and that they only changed it up a little bit.

I think the top window would be cool with all that view, but what happens when some kids are playing baseball or ignoritly throwing rocks at each other and one happen to hit that window. Its too much window and would cost you a furtune to have that replaced.. Plus I agree with apollo.. it is WAY against tradition to throw a v6 in a GT. All this goverment regulation is bull hockey along with all these jack crap scientist and their "global warming" stuff. I also prefur the boxy style cars. The 05-08 mustangs I think look bad-ass enough.
