A little past redline :/
Yeah. Today I was enjoying the dry roads with my Mustang, and I missed second to third at relatively high speed, which caused my engine to go about 300 over redline (redline is 5850ish, and I had it at 6200ish). Now, this being my first over-rev offense, I was pretty worried. Everything was normal right after and I drove it for 10 minutes after. I think I'm good, because everything seems ok. Even after, I opened the hood, and the engine wasn't too hot or anything, nor did my gauges say it was. I guess I'm just looking for someone to say "it happens" and I'll be ok?

If your engine is strong then you generally don't have to worry unless you go way over redline (I'd say 1000 plus). Typically when the redlines are programmed into the car's ECU they are done so before the breaking point of the engine's internals. Snapping into the red like you did when you missed your shift won't generally do too much immediately, maybe shortened the life of your engine a bit, but nothing to worry about.

Ok, that's good to hear. I only have 40,000 miles on it, and in Buffalo any commute to work, school etc. is like less than 15 minutes... so she should last a while. Thanks for the input

if the rev-limiter is still stock you more than likely didn't even hit the point of breaking the engine, seeing as from the factory most cars are not built for racing so it wouldn't need a high redline.

I wouldn't be too worried, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to go through your valves and reset the gap. We had an electrical problem on a 638ci that caused it to redline although that was much worse(fire came out the mufflers). We reset the gap and it was on the track again within and hour. The car im talking about isnt a pro NHRA car that youd see on tv, just a prostreet.

Isn't fire coming out of the muffler a good thing on a race only car? cuz the cat on a street legal car could melt and clog the exhaust...

yeah.. I was like 200rpms away from redline, then I screwed my shift.. so it was a learner's error. I just think it's sweet that I can drive stick only being 16

it should happen at any car unless it's alcohol or nitro, it's bad either way
