Volvo C30
I had a chance to take a close look at a Volvo C30 tonight. I was extremely impressed. IMO, the exterior is very modern and sleek, especially the white with the R skirts and front splitter. With the 6 speed manual, it's pretty quick.. it has a turbo 5 cylinder, which I guess is easily modified.
Confession: I kinda want one.

The rear end on those things look really weird, but I'm right there with you in wanting one. If you open up the exhaust on those inline 5's they sound just like their bigger V10 Brother and I bet you could pull quite a bit more out of that motor. I've been really impressed with Volvo lately. I used to think of Volvos as cars that English teachers drive, boxy little things. Lately though especially with the newer R-spec cars they have been really impressive both in looks and amenitites. I've wanted a Volvo since I first saw an S60R when I was shopping for the Monte, and the C30 is just a cool little car I want it just as much.

While I agree that this car has decent technology, good fuel economy and respectable power... I can't get deal with looks. The front end is OK to look at, but the rear end is downright ugly. It's like VW Beetle meets Ford Pinto!

That tailgate is pretty much the only unattractive part of the car though, you have to admit. If they would maybe ditch the glass hatch it might not look so bad. With the rear seats down you'll have some great rearward visibility, though.

I don't know.. I kinda like the back.. I mean, it is a hatchback after all.

I actually really like the back too, I think it's pretty neat. My friend just got one and it's a nice little car.

I looked at what seemed like hundreds of pictures of this car today and no matter how much I try I can't find it attractive. If it had a completely different rear end then it might be acceptable but to me, that back end is serious ugly!

Looks kinda like a Golf, but it's more like a Golf with down-syndrome

I would honestly take the C30 over the Golf, though.

yeah the Golf is very mainstream. I think the C30 has more personality, and it's even faster than the GTI.
