Default Lotus Evora

London 2008: Lotus unveils the Evora - Autoblog

to me it looks like a Tesla that runs on gas.... although if someone offered me this I'd take it hands down. Thoughts?

A 2+2 with a mid-engine layout sounds a little strange to me, but it sure looks pretty darn good. I question the functionality of those rear seats, they'll just become a padded parcel shelf unless you have a passenger who doesn't have any legs.

yeah sort of like the back seats in a 911 turbo. haha... totally useless unless you're hanging out with very tiny people.

Don't talk about Porsche like that let alone the 911T, it's a 2-seater at heart

And in this case I think the Evora is as well. Mid or rear-engine cars really shouldn't have back seats, they'd never be usable unless the car was so long that having the engine anywhere but the front just ruins the performance. Lotus should have done what Porsche did with the Cayman, instead of trying to fit rear seats they should have put a parcel shelf over the engine or in place of the seats.

Ooh I like the looks of it! I'd totally take it. Maybe even over the Elise!! :P Well, probably over it...hmm and yeah I'd probably agree about those back seats not being any good for other than putting your overnight bag on.

Eh Porsche's image is tainted by people who buy it for the name, not the great performance car that it is. So Porsche brought that on itself... and that's why they made the GT3 and the Cayman S etc. A car for driver's.. not show offs.

I personally would never buy a 911 as my own personal car simply because they are owned mostly by doctors and lawyers because of it's pedigree and not because of its performance, though I'm looking at an old air cooled 911 from the late 70's to turn into an auto cross car. I would certainly take a Lotus over a Porsche, not only because fewer fakes own one but because in all reality anything Lotus produces will outperform anything close from Porsche. Lotus sure knows how to set up a suspension, and since the cars are always so light they're nimble in the corners and quick off the line. Even though the Evora is supposed to be a GT I bet it could still take on an equally priced Carrera.

You're probably right, but I dont like that Lotus uses Toyota sourced engines. Couldn't they get a nice setup from something having to do with Cosworth?

Yeah, but the Toyota sourcing keeps the prices down and the drive trains of their vehicles more serviceable compared to something more high strung from Cosworth or any other high performance engine manufacturer. You could just take your Lotus to any Toyota dealer and get it serviced. Toyota engines can still take quite a beating so they work for what you need, at least the 1.8 Celica engines that is in the Elise and Exige. I'm not too familiar with the V6 they have in the Evora though.

Maybe with the Esprit whenever they bring that back they can go with a Cosworth-sourced engine. It'd seem only fitting for a super car if they are going to source engines from outside.

Apparently Lotus will also be releasing an "S" version. According to autoblog, there's also room for a blower in there.... this car should be pretty good at the track.

It reminds me of a Ferrari and a Lotus and an Aston Martin all fused and sanded and shined up

but like it.

Its how you say, "Nifty"
