Default Jaguar

Over the past few years Jag has evolved from a contemporary squishmobile and sports GT cars to soul-less heaps in the British Leyland era to its modern form of up-to-date sports and luxury cars. Gone are the days of wooden dashboards and contemporary layouts and a new era has of luxury and sports cars, including the new XF, with the XK before it. What do you guys think of the new Jags that have been coming out? Which era or model would you consider the cream-o-tha-crop in the history of Jag? Where do you think they should go from here now that they are not under the same roof as Aston Martin anymore? Let's talk Jags.

Well, it's been obvious to most people that Jaguar needed to do SOMETHING. Sales have been poor, despite the increases in quality, reliability, and technology. For the past 10 years I've been expecting Jaguar to take a radical turn, and abandon the traditional Jag style we all know and love in favor of something new. The XF is the first car of this new wave. While I don't love the styling as much as previous cars, or even the XK, I have to respect the powers that be for making the decision to move the brand forward. They needed to do this. Jaguar needs more buyers, and preferably younger ones. The current XJ and S-Type are not able to do this. Hopefully this new generation of cars will be able to keep the brand alive and restore it to the glory it once knew. As much as I love the tradtional looks, a car can't look the same for 25 years and expect to attract a new crowd.

Jaguar has definitely went into the higher levels of the Luxury Vehicles, More and More of them are being put on the road, they are becoming more of a Sport Luxury Vehicle than the Muscle it used to have. I love the way the cars look. I wouldn't compare them to Aston Martin, just cause i think that Aston Martin is a totaly different kind of company. Both Jag and Aston are owned by the Ford company, Jag is a luxury brand, with a little more sport nowadays. Just my vue

They used to be... Jaguar is now owned by Tata Motors, an Indian company. Aston Martin is now owned by a Russian billionaire if I'm not mistaken.

Just to chime in here again, I think the XKR is a beautiful car. I love that supercharged V8 and that aggressive stance. I want to see Jag go in a similar direction as Cadillac. One central cool design, many cars branched off of it. They need something exciting that's entry level, something beyond the X-Type. Then, they need to make an "R" version of the entry level for about $50-$60K. One last thing I would really like to see from Jaguar is a Jag SUV. I think they could really compete with the Audi Q7 and the Porsche Cayenne if it's engineered well.

I think they're underrated! Those old V12s were awesome! Yeah they broke down a lot, but it was still a V12!

um? Right, you said "I think they're overrated." I disagreed by saying "I think they're underrated." Why do you public school kids always get pissed off and bring up the private v public argument? It's so annoying. Plus, I've went to both, it's not like I've stayed private the whole time.

I think it's because public school students think everyone in a private school is rich. And we hate rich people, except Bill Gates because he financially supported my high school, and my high school principal because she shares the wealth as well

Kids, this is not an "education vs education" debate. Open up another thread in the General Chat Board and flame each other there.

I like where Jaguar is going with the new designs. I've been a fan of the XKs since its ancestor, the XJS. The new style has so much going for it, and even though I really liked the previous models (especially the XKR R-Performance coupe), I like the new car even more. The XF is interesting, for a lack of adjectives. From an angle it has too much "Nissan Altima" in its initial appearance, but that's no insult, because the Altima is a good-looking car in its own right. At any rate, I'm curious to see where they're going next with replacements for the X-Type and S-Type entry-level sedans. An SUV would be a good idea too.

Thank you.

I really like the new XF. I'm hoping that with their new ownership there will be more vehicles like that, and especially since Jag is no longer in the same company as Aston Martin, maybe we'll see a rebirth of a Jag supercar, like an XJ220 that corners or something like that.

Tell sniper to stop being a wanker then, because I'm just defending myself. Anyways, yes, as I said before a mid-sized suv would be the right way to go for Jag. Something that lines right up with the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Cadillac SRX type of car. With a little bit of tweaking, Jaguar could be a top brand.
