4.9 isn't a bad 0-60 run compared to the current competition, but I imagine once the new Mustang and the Camaro come out, they'll beat that for sure.

yeah but for the money, that's a pretty solid time. I can't believe you think a 4.9 is slow. I mean, no offense, but you're driving a Grand Am. Hell I wish my Mustang could do 4.9!

I'm thinking about saving up to get a supercharger, CAI, exhaust, and MSD ignition

Commendable, but that won't bring you a 4.9. I think that's a great time for the weight/market.

yeah i agree that they completely destroyed the Charger name, but this new Challenger is pretty kick-ass if you ask me. think about it for similar price of a new Ford Mustang GT (about 2-3 thousand more) you get a car thats quicker acceleration and has more gadgets and gizmos to keep everyone happy...

A new stang gt runs for $26k, as compared to an SRT8 charger which runs for $40k, but is selling for premiums. A good comparison to the SRT8 would be the Shelby GT500. But I can understand what you mean.

Steve Saleen just came up with a new tuner called "SMS". It's exclusively for Challengers, and those Saleen Mustangs are set to have some competition now.

My understanding is that Chrysler will be launching 2 more Challenger models soon, one with a V6 and one with a smaller V8 to compete with the Mustang GT. I'll be curious to see how they will be priced.

I happen to work as a mechanic at the Dodge dealership in town. I would any day, anytime take a NEW Challenger or Charger over the old ones. I love a lot of things about the old ones, but they are heavy, piss poor on handling, they were not fuel friendly at all. I have drove many of the SRT8 packages, 3.7s my fastest time so far, and that was done in a 4 DOOR CHARGER. I don't know about you but a FULL SIZE 4 door sedan that can go 0-60 in less than 4 seconds is DAMN fast. Comparing the Vette or Viper can barely come close.

Earlier this year we had the chance to install a full bolt on supercharger kit from Vortech. Added almost 230 hp at the rear wheels. DYNO. The car will do 0-60 in 3.3 so far the fastest we have had it. That is with a driver and a passenger and half a tank of gas. I don't know about many of you, but to have a car that can go that fast and still get about 25-30mpg on the highway, is DAMN good.

QUIT talking trash about a car that you have no experience with. The car is MUCH more dependable than what they EVER use to be!! If the OLD cars were so GOOD then why don't you see them on the streets anymore??? Maybe it's because they are where they belong, recycled back into the new ones!!!

By the way, the Challenger will come with a 6spd manual transmission. Similar tranny to the Viper and the GT500 tranny. (almost exactly the same)

I have drove the Challenger SRT8, the first one in Idaho. Very comparable to the SRT8 Charger, a little bit firmer suspension ride. The car is almost exactly the same as the Charger SRT8. STill a FAST car, never tried the 0-60 since it was a brand new car and the owner was riding in the car with me, while I drove it for the first 20 miles on the New Car prep. But I know it would do a bit faster than the Charger. Very tight steering, very tight cornering, a very nice car.
They have 3 models of the car.
S/T the 3.5L V6, R/T 5.7L Hemi, and SRT8, all come with their own unique interior accents and others etc.

I just wish it didn't weigh so much. 425hp wasted in a 4100lb 4 door sedan... Oh well. Atleast I can run them with my 5.0 with half the horsepower hahahaha.

where's the manual at then? I'm not doubting you, but 3.7 seems hard to believe... especially given the transmission.

The manual is available on the 09 Challenger, the 08's were a limited edition only. That's why they were only an automatic. Which for an automatic they aren't disappointing at all, those transmissions will take a hard beating!! It's a Mercedes 6spd automatic, very well built and designed. Nothing compared to what an automatic was 5 years ago, by far MUCH MUCH better. There is a guy here in town that is a state trooper and he owns a red SRT8. I'm the only guy he lets touch the car. But his record he has on there is 3.5 in a 0-60. You can do some minor tuning there on the dash with the SRT8s, very minor nothing that will do anything seriously significant. I still think for a 4 door sedan to take kids to school, that car can haul ass and do it well. I don't like the factory exhaust myself, just doesn't justify what the car is. My favorite I've heard so far SLP Perf.Challenger SRT-8 w/SLP Headers & Loud Mouth Exhaust. YouTube has many videos of SLP exhaust.
