If GM does a good job on the traction control system and the suspension, that difference could potentially be made up with how light the ZR1 is supposed to be. It's going to be a close one that's for sure, it all rides on how well GM can put the ZR1's power to the ground.

Possibly, but if they put launch control on it, I think it should do well. Isn't the GT2 (Porsche) rwd?

Yes it is. I forgot the GT2 is only RWD and not AWD like the normal Turbo. But it does have rear engine and launch control. I really hope Chevy jumps on the launch control trend bandwagon.

Considering the ZR1 is the first 6-figure Corvette, I would certainly hope they do something along the lines of launch control. It shouldn't be too hard for Chevrolet to do for the platform.

only 1 dealership in my area is getting 2 of them and 1 is already sold, according to the guy from Mike Barney Nissan at the 2008 Buffalo Auto Show, they'll be coming in around June or July. I want one but there is no way I can get $70,000 unless i save up all my paychecks from now until the release to put a down payment on one, which will be about $1400 - $3000 depending and I'll need to make payments of $400 to $600 a month...

I just read at AutoBlog that the Nissan GT-R has now ran a 7:29 on the Nürburgring.

Here's an excerpt:
Quote:
When the 193-MPH Nissan GT-R set a lap time of 7:38 last year at the 'Ring, besting cars like the Porsche GT3, Lamborghini Murcielago, and Mercedes SLR, the Nissan team was disappointed. There were two damp corners on the track, and everyone was quite sure that the car, piloted by official test driver Tochio Suzuki, could go faster.

Now it has. With a completely dry track, the base model Godzilla-san wearing stock Japanese-market tires shaved 9 seconds off its previous best time, posting a lap time of 7:29. On that same lap, it leapfrogged the Porsche GT2, Koenigsegg, and SLR 722 GT. Now it's flashing its headlights at the Carrera GT and Pagani Zonda F Clubsport, both about one second up the road. So if the standard model on stock tires does 7:29, and the more powerful, lighter GT-R V-Spec has already been casually clocked at 7:25 -- betting on what the GT-R's ultimate best lap time will be begins now... And did we say it can all be yours for $70,000? Damn. Check out Nissan's official presser after the jump.

Isn't that in the ballpark with the ZR1 and 911 Turbo (997)?

On serious things, wiki works well. It's probably fine in this case.

Hey Apollo, your beloved Corvette got beat by a Jap car. What was it you said? i believe it was "no car European or Japanese can come close to the ZR1." Eat your heart out! (I'm angsty today and I don't know why)

yeah, notice there were 2 occupants and it was a damp track... that'll definitely hold back a hot lap. I just like how you're trying to rub it in but you were actually quoting unofficial times. I never said European btw, of course they can, they make fast cars.. Japan on the other hand...

haha, I'm just messing with you import lovers, no hard feelings.
