Default Kia is Korean for "crap on wheels"

I hate Kias, I was servicing my father's 02 Sportage. It had a check engine light and it turns out that cylinder 1 was misfiring. I had a lot of complications just getting to the spark plugs (for reference, the engine was a DOHC I4)

1) 6 bolts and repositioning of electrical wires was needed just to get to the air filter located on the driver's side

2) the air hose went from the air box over across the top of the engine, where it divided into the intake resonator, over to the intake manifold on the passenger side

3) the technician that serviced it previously, half-assed it and not everything was bolted down all the way and some bolts were missing

I think it was bullshit they way they had the intake system, it would have been easier to just change the intake to where the exaust was and vicep-versa. It looked like it was engineered so dealerships and service garages could get more labor dollars out of it. It looked like someone was smoking crack when it was designed

Korean auto manufacturers haven't been known for their quality, however they're getting better. Hyundai has a couple of cars that have made a couple of cars that have made it on several top 10 lists from the big names like Car and Driver and Motortrend. That older model Kia may be a piece, but it is owned by Hyundai so they're probably getting better year by year. They do fill a pretty huge gap in the transportation market too; cheap automotive. How many of the major manufacturers sell new cars under $10000? You get what you pay for, but they're improving.

My father had a GM before, a Chevy Corsica, he didn't like it though. I had no doing with the purchase, my parents have been divorced my whole life anyways

"Kia" can vaguely be translated as "Suicide" in over three languages.
