Camaro vs Mustang vs Challenger
Yea, not fairest, should have been an SRT8 Challenger. But there could have been many other changes too, why not use a 2010 GT500?
Here is the link

that was an SS..... thats why it isn't fair.... the cars had no where near the same power or handling .... i agree.. it should have been the SRT8 and the GT500 VS the SS ... mustang would have won...

I was just stating that the SS is the lowest v8 model. And with the GT500 in there, I feel that it would totally destroy the SS and SRT8.

Isn't the GT500 around $50,000?

The SS isn't the base V8, it's the top current model (until next year when the Z28 is officially introed). The L99, which puts out 400hp is the base V8. As far as the Mustang goes, the GT is the only V8 actually offered by Ford - the GT500 is Shelby, not Ford, there is a big difference. The Shelby is on the same page as Saleen's S281 in that it is a model, but it's not technically a Ford anymore. Ford, however, is bringing back the Boss series Mustangs. I've seen an orange Boss 302 (2008ish) around the Vancouver area. Mustangs have never been big on hp to begin with, but you did pay attention to the numbers right? The Mustang got the second quickest 0-60 at 4.8 seconds, and that's with less horsepower than either of the other two. So really, horsepower isn't everything. Power/weight ratio is much more important in a performance car. The Mustang is the lightest car of the three by several hundred pounds. Here's the ratio figures for each of them:
Camaro: 9.1lbs per hp (this is remarkable)
Mustang: 10.7
Challenger: 10.9
For a car that has much less horsepower than the other two, it's still very competitive.
Side note: the GT500 is a VERY heavy car, and it isn't any quicker than a normal GT.
Just wait until next year, there will undoubtedly be another comparison test done by R&T with the SRT8 (or next year's SRT10 Challenger in the works, I've seen the car...it's WICKED), Z28, and quite possibly a new Boss 428 (or GT500).

the SS is one of their highest trims.. and the GT500 is still ford seeing as it is sold on ford's web page and shelby and ford are partnered .. still they should have used a premium GT instead of a stock one if you want to make that argument.. and price wise the GT500 and SRT8 would have been a better comparison..

No question about it, but this wasn't about the top models. I'm not sure why they didn't use the L99 Camaro...maybe they couldn't get one, or the SS was the only one readily available. Bottom line: all three cars in that test are amazing machines, and all of them would be a blast to drive.
Edit: what was that performance package for the Mustang called on the '50-'08 models? You know, the one with the big-ass hood scoop, and putting out a bit over 400hp? I can never remember what its called. Not the Pony Package (that's an appearance option) but the other one.

I think they didn't use the L99 Camaro because the other two cars were 6-speeds so they got 6-speed SS instead of the Auto like the L99 is. They should rerun this challenge with automatics all around and judge the true all-around winner.
Oh, and if they used the Shelby GT-500 then it wouldn't be fair putting a supercharged car against two N/A cars. If they did use the GT-500 then they would have to use the Procharger or Hurst Challenger, and those two cars will put out entirely different results depending on the tune. It is a lot easier to just use factory cars on factory tune, that way it is the manufacturer all around being judged and not the engine builder and the factory. A little more direct IMO.

i agree with you.. but i still think it was an unfair fight.. that was a top of the line SS camaro that would have been whooped if put against the SRT8 .... and there is no performance package for the stang..

Yes there is (not the one I was talking about, but I stumbled upon it anyhow): Road & Track Magazine - FRPP Ford Mustang (4/2009)

$46,000.
This was a fair comparison.. and by any means it's historically accurate. The Camaro was always faster than the Mustang stock, but the Mustang always sold more units. All three of these cars are neat, but my personal order is 1) Mustang GT, 2) Camaro SS, 3) Dodge Challenger R/T. I get Motor Trend at home, and they were saying the new Mustang is tuned so well that the live axle is almost nonexistent. One writer even mentioned that the new Mustang has the "best steering in an American car ever."
I have no problem with the Camaro, but mainly I like the image, poise, and performance choices of the Mustang better. The 2010 Mustang is truly built for the driver: you can choose different rear gear ratios straight from the factory, upgraded brakes, more aggressive exhaust, and better suspension all from the factory (not included Ford Racing Parts with full warranty... Whipple Supercharger anyone?). The Mustang also takes the cake for me because it's significantly lighter than both the Camaro and Challenger. Overall I thought it was a good and fair comparison... there is something to be said of GM's former self. Those LSx engines are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Upon hearing the words “Shelby GT500", several images come to mind: sharp looks, superior performance, and a growling attitude to match. Its looking very good. i can recommend to use it.
