Exclamation 1998 Jeep Wrangler rear end problems

OK, so today I took my jeep for a drive and my U-joints I know are already shot and gone and I just haven't been able to replace them yet. The problem is that at freeway speed, the jeep has an unusual vibration, and its getting worse. After the drive there is a puddle of oil underneath my rear diff. Can any one tell me what happened or how to fix? Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you have torn up the pinion seal in the rear diff from the vibration of the bad u-joints. Chances are you might have took out the pinion bearing also.

The vibration will also loosen the nut on the pinion yoke. Crawl under it and see if it is loose. At the minimum will will have to tear it apart and put a pinion seal in it.

Default Got it fixed (almost)

I just bought a 8.8 Rear end out of a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer. Much Much stronger than the stock rear end. I'm happy.

I would replace the fuel filter first. It's a cheap and easy fix for the most part, and with the age of the vehicle, it's is probably due for it anyway.
May this HELP you...........
