I was out back tearing apart my old 4G63 block and tranny that has been laying in my back yard since last summer when I pulled it out since I actually had the time for once. Pulled off the transfer case, separated the engine and transmission, removed the torque converter and started ripping into the block. The oil pump is off, so are all of the pulleys and I started on the water pump but I ran out of sunlight. One of the main things I did was pull off the oil pan and pop out the pistons and rods, in doing so I confirmed what I suspected had gone wrong with the engine. Two spun rod bearings, on in cylinder 3 and one in cylinder 4. Cylinder 3 the lip of one was just barely under the other, where in cylinder 4 the bearings were one on top of the other. No sign of oil starvation but they're sure all scratched up. I'm going to clean up the rods and see if they are still reusable, the pistons are still good just need to clean them up. Whenever I get the time again I'll pull out the crank shaft and junk the rest of the block, then tear down the transmission and learn a thing or two about how it works. The previous owner wasn't BSing tho, that was a 6-bolt swap alright. Too bad they went cheap on the rebuild with a real bad overbore and stock pistons, couldn't even hold water in the cylinders let alone air.
