UAW Strike - Greedy baby boomers kill the Big 3.

by purduedaze Posted On 09/25/2007 20:04:19
Since this is a car site we might as well discuss this. Some say it is "business as usual". This is typical of the American automotive industry. Britney Spears is getting more air time on CNN for gods sake.

Who cares?... Me. I've been a "cay guy" ever since I was a kid and my favorite cars have always been American built, and not because I am a "buy American" kind of guy. It would break my heart to see the Big 3 go away. Not to mention the potential impact on our economy.

This strike will probably be the straw that broke the horse's back. It is nothing more than a great example of how the Baby Boomer generation has sold out America for my generation. I cannot hardly stand to read the papers with quotes like,"I have given for years, and it's time I got back". I say this because the American automotive industry
is the most nauseatingly overpaid for output of any industry ever. $70 an hour to tighten a bolt or two, every 2 or three minutes?

The unions were a godsend decades ago, but now everything they fought for then, is now law. Leaving them with nothing left to do, but brainwash their members into forgetting that they have a job that most anyone off the street could do, but are getting paid more than most jobs that require college educations. Then inspite of this they manage to make them feel like they're being taken advantage of. Meanwhile the Big 3 are strangled into rediculous debt.

I have worked in both union and nonunion manufacturing facilities, and there is no comparison. Wake up folks! It's not that GM is producing vehicles that no one wants. It's that no one wants to buy them off of an assembly line full of a spoiled, self centered, company strangling generation. These folks will sign a contract with Two Tier wage programs, sealing the fate of thier children for nothing more than a little cash.

Americans are still by far the most productive in the world. It's just that you have to go to a foreign car company to see them.

I agree that workers in the automotive industry are paid high enough here in the US.  Even places in europe pay less than here by the hour, and everyone should know that much of europe is way more unionized than the US.  Japan underpays their workers and the US overpays, so I guess Canada, China, and Europe will stay profitable, unlike the Big US top three.  The  baby boomer generation is responsible as much as the newer generations.  Everyone plays a part somehow.

WHOOOT WHOOT!! +1 on the rant!!
But remember, we aren't all innocent gen either...our generation is always trying to live off the mothers and fathers (something I don't see much in REAL serious car kids...but there's those ricers, most preps, most "sports jockys" in highschool are just spoiled little jerks who drive mommys car (which happens to be a 2008 302 Boss Mustang...yes, there IS a 16 year old in my town that drives one...and goes to a private catholic school, and has never seen a time-card)
